La Ciarliana is a dream that began in 1996 with Luigi and his first Vintage of Vino Nobile. It traces back to the passion he inherited from his father, Santo Pellegrino and that had started – before – with his grandfather Luigi in the 60’. A dream, which is now forward-looking in Matteo’ eyes.
La Ciarliana is a Tuscan winery in Montepulciano that mainly produces Vino Nobile di Montepulciano docg and Rosso di Montepulciano doc. Our selected Cru is named Vino Nobile di Montepulciano docg Vigna ‘Scianello. We do also produce Donna Claudia Rosè Toscana Igt, a Supertuscan named Santo Pellegrino and Vin Santo di Montepulciano doc. We are very proud to be the opposite of a multinational group, driven by an authentic, indomitable passion for our work. A true Tuscan Winery.
Always aiming for the highest quality, we do truly love what we do and we do it with the sharpest and cruel passion. Our story begins when Luigis’s grandfather arrived in Montepulciano from the area surrounding Benevento. Luigi was born and raised here, among these rows, eating bread and passion for wine.
He became an agronomist and began his career as an esteemed consultant for one of the most renowned wine companies if the south of Siena, managing the productions of Montepulcaino, of the Maremma and Chianti areas…but he had a dream.
And in 1996 that dream became reality: he stopped working as consultant and bottled his first own vintage of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano La Ciarliana.
The property has increased from the former 2 hectares to the actual 21, producing Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Rosso di Montepulciano and Chianti.
The vineyards, with a density of 5000 vines per hectare, have been planted following a careful geological and clone study.
